This index was originally commenced by a local genealogist from the Newcastle area. His data, covering much of the period from June 1994 to February 2001, was handed over to the Sydney DPS for publication.

Most notices published in this newspaper are in the form of funeral notices. In general, the few death notices usually refer to people with a connection to the Newcastle area, but who died elsewhere. Local deaths are usually those covered by funeral notices. The original data does not distinguish between death and funeral notices.

Because the date of death was not included in the original data, we have used the publication date with a suffix of "P" (in common with the indexes for other newspapers) in its place. The original data also excluded location details.

It appears there are no surviving copies of issues dated:
